NEW! True to its origins
t’s time for a change and Moominpappa moves his family to a lighthouse. Two revealing stories intertwine, ‘Moominpappa at Sea’ and ‘Moominvalley in November’, and their warm wisdom is clothed with words and illustrations that reflect sorrow and longing after Tove’s mother passing away. Tove Jansson brings her melancholy story to life with precise line drawings. Her simple yet moving pictures wake up the sea and wind and evoke light and shadow.
Moominvalley - special mug 2017
In May 2017 the new and only Moomin Museum in the world will open its doors to allow everyone to enjoy Tove Jansson’s original artworks. In order to celebrate the Moomin Museum, we made a first Arabia special mug, a real piece of expertise, decorated with Tove’s aquarelle painting. The original illustration can be viewed at the Moomin Museum in Tampere, Finland.
Moomin special products
Moomin by Arabia special items tell a unique, original story. We made a promise to Tove Jansson that we will use only original Moomin illustrations on our ceramics - a promise we have kept since the 1950’s until today.
The Moomin products are more than just tableware. They are timeless artifacts that are used to celebrate friendship and the Moomin philosophy of life. We know Moomin fans appreciate meaningful themes, which has given us the inspiration for all our special product families.
The colorful Moomin dishes from Arabia celebrate the joy of friendship, as originally told in the story “Who Will Comfort Toffle”. Designer Tove Slotte created a unique product family based on Tove Jansson's original illustrations, drawning inspiration from the colorful passion of the original story. Let the story carry you on.
"Now once upon a time, although not very long ago,
And hidden in the forest where the tall dark pine trees grow,
There lived a boy called Toffle in a house that stood alone,
He always felt so lonely --."
( Tove Jansson, 1960, Who will comfort Toffle?)
Tove and Lars Jansson's original drawings have been transferred to Arabia's Moomin products thanks to Tove Slotte-Elevant. She has completed the drawings that were limited by cartoon frames, added the measurements to suit mugs, plates and bowls.
