Corporate responsibility

Fiskars also requires all of its suppliers to follow national laws and pursue continuous efforts to reduce their environmental impact. Our product designs are timeless and intended for long-term use. We believe that as a counter balance for a culture of disposability, people value well-designed things that are made to endure time and changing trends.

Countries manufacturing ceramic products
Arabia products are manufactured at the Arabia ceramics factory belonging to Fiskars Group, located in Helsinki. With the completion of the new mass and glaze manufacturing centre, Massiivi, the Arabia factory is focused on ceramic research and development work, as well as the industrial manufacture of selected products. The factory produces white and coloured plates, bowls and pots as well as coloured cups. In addition, the Arabia factory manufactures a selected range of products that are machine decorated, as well as seasonal products. Products from the Arabia factory include the Runo and Paratiisi series, plates in the Arctica, Lumi and Koko series, and some of the Moomin products.

Contracted manufacturers
Fiskars pursues long-term profitable business in an ethical, responsible and sustainable manner. We use contracted manufacturers in order to guarantee an interesting, versatile and competitive range for the consumer, even when we ourselves do not have sufficient capacity or technical facilities to manufacture a particular product. Fiskars is committed to ensuring that working conditions in its supply chain are safe, workers are treated with respect and dignity, and business operations are environmentally sustainable.
To complement in-house manufacturing, Fiskars has developed a network of external suppliers. These are seen as long-term partners and are selected on the basis of their capability to support Fiskars' quality, supply chain, cost, and technical targets with flexibility. Fiskars personnel from local sourcing offices and business areas work in close cooperation with our suppliers. Our contracted manufactures supply us e.g. following products: some of the cups , mugs, serving items and pitchers of 24h, 24h Tuokio, Arctica, Lumi and Koko series, Koko Roses and some of the Moomin products.

Environment
Environmental issues are considered carefully at the Arabia ceramics factory belonging to Fiskars Group. The Arabia factory has an environmental permit, issued under a decision of the Uusimaa Environment Centre on 11 November 2003. The factory’s operating system also contains an environmental system that follows ISO 14001 principles and an ISO 9001 quality standard. Raw materials are efficiently utilised in all phases of the process at the factory. In order to minimise surplus materials, the first recycling round is often performed as part of the manufacturing process already at the factory.

The goal when handling materials and finished products is an efficient and functional logistical chain that has no unnecessary steps. Fiskars Group develops logistics in collaboration with material suppliers and the distribution body: the aim is to reduce overall delivery requirements. In addition, product packaging generally uses recyclable materials.
